We’re sad to be so close to the end of tomato season, but, apples (!) are (!) here (!). We’ve reached that glorious overlap at the market when our favorite summer produce is still clinging to the end of August, but apples have firmly claimed their market tent stake.

We’re sad to be so close to the end of tomato season, but, apples(!) are(!) here(!). We’ve reached that glorious overlap at the market when our favorite summer produce is still clinging to the end of August, but apples have firmly staked their market tent claim.

Pies come to mind first, free-form galettes second. For when we’re not baking (or eating them right from the stand on the way home from the market), we’re looking to this roundup of savory apple recipes from Saveur. Horseradish Applesauce? Winter Squash and Apple Soup? Get out your peelers, people.
