Bad news for pastina fans: American brand Ronzoni is discontinuing its rendition of the teensy-tiny pasta shape. The reason? According to an Instagram post from Ronzoni, the company's pastina supplier told them that, starting in January 2023, they would no longer be producing the beloved product.

“This wasn’t a decision that we wanted to make,” said the brand in a statement. “We searched extensively for an alternative solution but were unable to identify a viable option….As a result, we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue this product.”

While Ronzoni is not the sole pasta brand selling pastina, its unique shape—though the company says they're five-pointed stars, we think they looks more like flowers—has made it a favorite among consumers. In fact, some found the news so disappointing that petitions to bring the product back began popping up just hours after the announcement.

Because of its small size, pastina is known for its versatility. Often added to soups like minestrone or eaten on its own with butter and cheese, it’s a go-to meal for parents. As a result, it’s a nostalgic, comforting treat for those who grew up with it. Though Ronzoni’s version will be discontinued for the time being, fans shouldn’t lose all hope. “We haven’t given up,” said a spokesperson for the brand, in a statement to Marketwatch.

In the meantime, you may need to get your adorable flower-shaped fix elsewhere. Here are three items for your home that, while not as delicious (or edible) as a heaping bowl of pastina, are just as cute.
