If you have a watermelon, an immersion blender, and some basic bar staples, you're only 10 minutes away from the easiest crowd-pleasing cocktail recipe for a summer barbecue. The watermelon itself is the serving vessel, making for a fun and unique presentation. Make sure to remove some of the watermelon juice after blending to make room for the additional ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 1 large seedless watermelon, about 16 pounds
  • 10 ounce tequila
  • 6 ounce lime
  • 6 ounce orange liqueur such as triple sec or dry curaçao
  • ice for serving
  • mint for garnish, optional

Directions

  • Step 1

Set the watermelon on the cutting board lengthwise. Use a knife to trim a small amount off of one end. This will give the watermelon a surface to stand on. Cut a larger piece off of the other end, enough to fully expose the watermelon flesh. Set the watermelon with this exposed side facing up.

  • Step 2

Insert an immersion blender into the watermelon and begin to blend. The watermelon should start to liquify immediately. Blend as much of the watermelon flesh as possible. Use a ladle to remove about 3 cups of watermelon juice.

  • Step 3

Add the tequila, lime juice, and orange liqueur. Stir to combine. This can be served right away but will be better if allowed to chill for a few hours in the refrigerator. Serve over ice with optional mint for garnish.
