Food photography can be frustrating. Because as beautiful as the picture is, what you really want to do is reach onto the page (or into the screen) and tear off a chunk of that piece of Irish soda bread.

But photographs of food also make us stop and admire the glorious textures of some of our favorite ingredients and dishes. Without the distraction of smells and flavors, we're able to stop and swoon over the crispy, bubbling skin of perfectly-fried tofu, at the sandy sugar coating on apple cider donuts, and the millions of flaky layers in a croissant.
